Anime characters that get going when the going gets tough

“When The Going Gets Tough

  The Tougher Get Going”

In life, everything doesn’t go as planned. There are times when you are faced with unprecedented situations. And how you go about resolving that problem determines the kind of person you are. Are you a person who gives in defeat when things get tough? or You are a person who faces the problem head-on while others decide to quit?

Here are my 10 Anime characters that get going when the going gets tough:

1. Shoyo Hinata (Haikyuu!) Shows Us That A little Guy Like Him Can Still Become A Giant

Shoyo Hinata (Haikyuu!) Shows Us That A little Guy Like Him Can Still Become A Giant

Hinata doesn’t give up on his dreams of playing volleyball despite his short appearance. Even when his school didn’t have a boy’s volleyball team instead of giving up he practised with the girls’ team.

He isn’t frightened by opponents who are taller and stronger than him. On the contrary, he shivers with excitement when he is faced with tough opponents.

He shows us that your circumstances can’t define your choices instead your choices define your circumstances’.

If there’s an anime that inspires you to chase your dreams and never give up. Then that has to be Haikyuu!

2. Rock Lee (Naruto) Shows Us That Passion And Hardwork Can Outshine Natural Born Talent

Rock Lee aspires to become a shinobi without knowing any ninjutsu. Lee isn’t part of any clan that bestows him with any special abilities or powers that are passed on from generation to generation.

So what does he do now? He still pushes to make his dream a reality with sheer willpower infused with immense passion and never giving up attitude

Lee is the most perseverant anime character of all time.

He gives hope to people, that you don’t need special powers to become a hero/dominate the world/ achieve your dreams.

3. Asta (Black Clover): Can You Become A Wizard Without Having Any Magic Energy?

Asta was born with zero magic energy making him unable to utilise even simple magic.

His goal is to become the wizard king. A boy who was to be a wizard king without having any magic energy is quite hysterical.

So since he has no magic energy he trains his body to increase his stamina and body strength instead.

His strong determination leads him to have an unwavering will to never give up and keep standing tall during difficult battles.

He is by far the most motivating anime character

4. Izuku Midoriya ( My Hero Academia) Will Never Forsake His Dream Of Becoming A Hero

Izuku Midoriya ( My Hero Academia) Will Never Forsake His Dream Of Becoming A Hero
Midoriya never hesitates to help/ rescue someone in danger even if he knows that he might not be strong or qualified enough to do it.

Midoriya’s hero name ‘Deku’ is a courageous one indeed.

He has a high battle intellect and has a helping heart even for his rivals/ opponents.

He longs to become a hero but has no quirk of his own in a world where people recognise you by your quirk.

But that doesn’t restrain him from following his dream of becoming a hero whether he has special powers of his own or not.

Midoriya seems like the most ambitious anime character.

5. Tanjiro Kamado ( Kimestu No Yaiba) Goes Leaps And Bounds To Protect His Sister

Tanjiro Kamado ( Kimestu No Yaiba) Goes Leaps And Bounds To Protect His Sister
Tanjiro is a young compassionate demon slayer who slays demons alongside his demon sister Nezuko.

He will never abandon his sister despite her being a demon.

Whenever in a battle he is pushed to his limits he always digs deep and keeps fighting unless everyone around him is safe and sound.

Tanjiro is the most ideal role model to have.

He always gets going when the going gets tough.

6. Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) Lays His Life On The Line To Save His Younger Brother

Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) Lays His Life On The Line To Save His Younger Brother
Edward and his younger brother Alphonse attempt a human transmutation to bring back their lost mother.
But unfortunately, that fails which causes Edward to lose his left leg and Alphonse to lose his body.

Even when he was under tremendous physical pain from having lost a leg. He still manages to perform alchemy to seal his brother’s soul in armour in return for his right arm.

This guy is tougher than metal.
I don’t think there’s any other anime character who reacts the way he does when his back is against the wall.

7. Okabe (Stiens; Gate) Endures The Pain Of Losing A Loved One In exchange For His Friend’s Life

Okabe (Stiens; Gate) Endures The Pain Of Losing A Loved One In exchange For His Friend's Life
I have mixed feelings about this Okabe fellow. I have two opinions about him:
  • He seems worthless, good for nothing and a pathetic excuse for a hero.
  • But sometimes he also seems kike a person with strong willpower, a high pain threshold who relentlessly keeps trying even though he knows he can’t alter the flow of time.

He desperately keeps trying to save Mayuri but fails every damn time. I have lost of count how many times he pathetically watches her die in front of his own eyes.

In the end, he manages to save Mayuri but at the expense of Makise’s life.

8. Kirito ( Sword Art Online) Shows Us That Human Will Power Is Greater Than The system

Kirito ( Sword Art Online) Shows Us That Human Will Power Is Greater Than The system
Kirito is one of the most popular anime characters of all time. He has this heroic persona which instantly grabs the attention of the audience.

During his attempt at rescuing Asuna, he gets stabbed with a sword. Seeing Asuna get molested in front of his own eyes and realizing the fact that he can’t do anything to stop that.

He affirms that he is nothing more than a player. He soon remembers what Kayaba said to him with hope, “Human willpower is more powerful than the system”

His words encourage him to stand up and go against the game where he was destined to lose.

Someone going against the game is impossible but Kirito made it possible.
Kirito is a fine example of a character who gets going when the going gets tough.

9. Takemichi Hanagaki ( Tokyo Revengers) Is A Cry Baby Chasing After An Unattainable Goal

Takemichi Hanagaki ( Tokyo Revengers) Is A Cry Baby Chasing After An Unattainable Goal
Just like Okabe Takemichi is trying to alter the past to save his high school ex-girlfriend Tachibana Hinata from dying in the future.
He keeps travelling back in time to change the flow of the past events to a certain extent, that’s enough to alter the future where his ex-girlfriend dies.

Takemichi is a cry baby with no so talent or any real strength to back his ambitions.
Despite all his trips to the past, his efforts are to no avail, his ex-girlfriend dies every time irrespective of how many times he alters the past.

He knows he is incapable of saving her life but he doesn’t sulk over it all day long, feeling sorry for himself.

He keeps trying again and again and again, doesn’t matter the pain he had to bear in order to save her, he keeps fighting.

He is the most persistent anime character.

Seeing a hopeless loser like him try so hard makes me wonder about the times I gave up because I kept failing.

10. Mikasa Ackerman (Attack On Titan) Is The Most Badass Female Anime Character

Mikasa Ackerman (Attack On Titan) Is The Most Badass Female Anime Character

Mikasa is the most badass anime girl character I have ever seen.
She has this cool boyish charm to her personality which fans find sexy.

She is so good that she gives competition to Levi and Yeager in popularity
She is considered a genius since she was a teen and is incredibly skilled at combat and agility

She has slayed countless titans, especially the ones which are bigger and tougher.
When everyone is out of gas, she is the one who steps up and delivers.
She is possibly the strongest female anime character of all time
